Low-key lighting (or ambient light) is a form of lighting for photography, film or television. It is an attempt to create a chiaroscuro effect. In traditional photography, lighting, use of three-point lighting a key light, fill light, and a backlight for even illumination. Low key lighting requires only one key light, screened by a light or fill in a simple reflector.

Low key light accentuates the contours of an object by throwing to fill in dark areas, while a light or reflector, the light can be shed on the black contrast. to fill the relative strength of the key, as the lighting ratio can be known with a light meter. Low-key lighting has a higher proportion of light, eg 8:1, than high key lighting, the 1.01-can approach.
The term “low key” is used in cinematography, find each scene with a high proportion of light, especially if there is a preponderance of the shadows. It tends to increase the feeling of alienation experienced by the viewer, and so is often used in film noir and horror genres.

Low Key Photography Tecnique
You have all heard, white on white, and it certainly has its place. However, his humor is black on black, too. A low key image evokes mystery, night and secrets. Silhouette and form takes precedence over color and light.
In view of the subject from the background, a slight edge in order. Illuminated objects hidden, the source of the lens approach for a direct way, their power to show, and revel in the dark.
Before dark subjects, but with structure and reflective properties. A wine-colored satin, a bolt of dark navy and gold tapestries, crushed velvet and chocolate tones or a cup of black ceramic filigree edge in hand, all candidates for a low key image.
Face lighting can from the side – a broad and by masked source. Small is beautiful locations is a key light for the emphasis on the important details. An interesting fact is that additional light is thrown on black background, blacker blacks in the major growing areas. The reason is that the additional exposure is curve on the wide range of tones in the upper part of the curve increased. Therefore, the blacks darker and more extended placement details in the highlights. To determine the correct exposure, see the light of a 10 percent gray card instead of the subject. Holder for safety.
Careful pressure is on the dark skin color (shade) just over a black in the density, while the allocation of the real skin tones to a small area near the main eye: a triangular area on the cheek or s Peak scattered on the forehead. All others on the screen would be lit well enough to be seen and appreciated, but pointed to the shadows. A favorite trick of the Masters was soft key light an object or a secondary importance in the eyes of the main theme. For example, a girl with an apple is ready for mating again would be ignited by a narrow window, but a portion of the light would fall on the apple and knife. Anything else would be put in the shade.
A large black umbrella is a handy tool for producing a low key portrait weakened in mid-sized environments. Published on the right side of the camera just outside the reach of the lens to deepen the screen and the sounds close to face the camera. In general, a soft light from a broad source, such as a large window covered with blinds to control for a low key image ideal. You can secure a light back to a large, thin cardboard box with upper and lower knockout and painted black on the inside. Lay the box on the light, resulting in a long, narrow snout. City blew the back and some points about the issue on the lens. The same effect can be worn by a window covered, except for a narrow slit in the middle.
Experiment with the composition and therefore to change the subject and the subject of activity for guests. If you succeed, the viewer’s eyes will be riveted on the subject and will no doubt agree.
